Longitudinal Study merupakan gagasan Forum PRB membantu masyarakat dan pemerintah dalam mengukur dampak yang dihasilkan dari kegiatan Rehabilitasi-Rekonstruksi Pemulihan Paska Bencana Erupsi Merapi 2010. Longitudinal Study (LS) merupakan metode Survey secara berkala setiap tahun dalam jangka waktu 3 - 5 tahun, diharapkan dapat memberikan gambaran dan sekaligus bahan sebagai dasar mengambil kebijakan lanjutan untuk usaha-usaha pemulihan paska bencana yang sedang berjalan. Hasil-hasil LS terutama diperuntukan bagi Pemerintah (BNPB/BPBD) sebagai dasar untuk mengukur seberapa besar dampak dari kegiatan rehab-rekon tersebut. Selain itu hasil study ini juga dapat digunakan pula oleh semua lembaga yang mempunyai kepentingan terhadapa kegiatan rehab-rekon paska bencana erupsi Merapi 2010, baik itu NGO/LSM, Dunia Usaha dan lain-lain.

Selain itu, hasil Longitudinal Study ini akan digunakan sebagai dasar penentuan Disaster Recovery Index (DRI), sebuah Indikator Ketangguhan Komperhensif yang digagas oleh Forum PRB DIY & Jateng bersama mitra-mitranya dalam Tim LS. Hasil keseluruhan dari mulai LS sampai menjadi DRI akan menjadi Topik Bahasan utama dalam hajatan 5th Asia-Pacific Ministers Conference of Disaster Risk Reduction (AMCDRR ke-5), di Yogyakarta.
