Position : Media & Communications Coordinator (Position Code: MCC)

Based in : Jakarta
Functional Summary
To oversee, facilitate and coordinate the implementation of the media
and communication strategy and programme in ChildFund programme area.
Key Responsibilities
Use the media and other conventional and non-conventional publicity
channels (blogs, brochure, pamphlets, etc) to enhance and protect
organization’s brand, and promote organization’s campaign and advocacy
objectives, as well as humanitarian (during normal and emergency time)
and development activities within Indonesia.Play a leading role in the
development of a coherent in country media and communications strategy,
including the development of the monitoring and evaluation system
related to media and communications, coordinating activities such that
they maintain effective links with Regional Office and Global support
system (Media, Policy, and Humanitarian).Facilitate the implementation
of the media and communications strategy at the national and zonal
level, including providing support to media and communications elements
in programmes and projects at national and zonal levelTake a lead in
maintaining link with zonal, national, and international
media outlets (TV, radio, print, and online) at the national and zonal
levels, maintaining media database, and developing pieces for
circulation and conducting interviews and reports.Provide a timely
response to incoming enquiries from local, national, and international
media.Take a lead in drafting news releases, opinion pieces and other
media engagement documents, and take documents through sign off
procedures.Maintain responsibility for developing strong news, stories
which bring together organization’s programme and profile.Play a key
role in supporting programmes and projects by developing media
strategies, establishing key messages, building relations with the media
across Indonesia and establishing media alliances as required.Take a
lead in supporting staff, sponsorships team and partners in the zonal
offices in the development of media activities in country through
training, providing quality information and analysis, and facilitating
sharing
experiences and learning.Play a key role in providing assistance with
any research regarding media required for any particular issues that
organization is advocating on.Take a lead in monitoring the Indonesian
media, both to spot opportunities for organization and to assist with
providing regular summary information and updates, overviews regarding
organization, its partners, and their activities in the media.Play a key
role in providing support to partners, through regular visits and
dialogue, giving attention to:
Identifying needs for capacity building in terms of media engagement,
and media-relations skills.Assisting with strategic planning and
providing advice and guidance on programme development, particularly
from the media point of view.Networking partners (and non partners)
together to broaden their experience in media engagement activities.
Play a key role in ensuring all organization’s publication in the media
addresses child right issues gender inequality, including assisting
NGO/partners in mainstreaming child issues in the overall programme
cycle (planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation)Be available
outside of office hours to answer media inquires.Be a link with Regional
Office and International Office.
Qualifications and experience
Undergraduate Degree in Communication or related field of studyAt least 5
years experiences as a working journalist or public relations
consultant/media officer in a non-government organization or private
companies.Have a good news-sense and an ability to react quickly to
maximize media opportunities to promote organization’s aims and child
campaigns in the media.Analytical skills with knowledge and good
understanding on global and national development issues.Proven extensive
contact with editors and journalists from media throughout
Indonesia.Ability to work as part of a multi-cultural team and
communicate effectively, both verbally and in writingFluency in both
written and spoken Bahasa Indonesia and EnglishComputer
literacyWillingness to work flexible hours and to travel frequently
within countries
