Bumi Sehat is a non-profit village-based organization in Ubud, Bali that
provides midwifery services to ensure gentle births as well as health
consultations for children and adults. Bumi Sehat aims to grow over the
next four years, and has acquired a parcel of land near its current
clinic on which it plans to build a large primary health center to
provide health services to the indigent. As the organization grows,
particularly following increased international publicity of its founder,
Robin Lim, who won CNN’s Hero of the Year award in 2011, Bumi Sehat is
seeking a Business Manager to scale up its operations and identify new
avenues of funding. Please find details about the position ;
Title : Business Manager
Duration: anticipated to be a 12 months of position
Work based: Ubud, Bali
Overview :
The Business Manager will be responsible for assisting Bumi Sehat with
business development and strategic planning, training Bumi Sehat’s staff
on developing a business plan, write funding proposals, manage
donations, and provide financial reporting to funders. S/he will work
with the pro-bono consultants currently assisting with the business plan
to devise a strategy for its use. The Business Manager will facilitate
meetings between Bumi Sehat staff and corporate and philanthropic
organizations to initiate large-scale fundraising efforts. The Business
Manager will also advise Bumi Sehat on national and local regulations
regarding NGOs and fundraising. S/he will assess existing administrative
and financial processes, making recommendations for more efficient
processes to facilitate further growth. This position will be based at
the Bumi Sehat clinic, but will also liaise with Bumi Sehat Foundation
in the U.S., and will have some local travel to meet
investors. Individual is expected to be mobile and adaptable.
Responsibilities:
(further) Develop a business plan, fundraising strategy, timelines, and targets for Bumi Sehat
Identify major companies operating in Indonesia, prominent international
foundations, and other philanthropic organizations and help Bumi Sehat
staff tailor the business plan to meet their application requirements.
Further develop the Bumi Sehat staff to develop and revise a business
plan to identify funders, and to launch successful fundraising
campaigns.
Develop corporate and foundation proposals for funding
Identify ways to make Bumi Sehat’s funding stream more reliable, while
keeping in mind its ethos of providing low and no-cost services to those
in need.
Advise on national and local regulations regarding NGOs and fundraising.
Train the Bumi Sehat staff in the preparation of financial reports for
funders, as well as the preparation of a system to manage financial
reporting deadlines.
Assess the current administrative system of the NGO and identify ways to
streamline and/or create an electronic filing system to manage records.
In doing so, s/he will provide on-the-job training to the Bumi Sehat
staff on best practices for data management.
Evaluate the current Bumi Sehat website through a fundraising lens and make recommendations about how it can be improved.
Help Bumi Sehat staff devise improved systems to manage donations.
Offer improvements to the human resource hiring and recruiting system to
ensure that all staffing needs (paid and volunteer) are met.
Assist with hiring/recruiting an M&E person to analyze existing data (volunteer or paid).
Support the recruitment and training of a permanent Business Manager, if Bumi Sehat chooses to support such a position.
Provide a report of activities to USAID which will include recommendations for Bumi Sehat to continue its expansion
Other duties as assigned
Qualifications, Skills, and Attributes:
· MBA or equivalent degree
· At least five (5) years of business management experience and experience writing business proposals
· Knowledge of Indonesian laws and regulations regarding NGOs and fundraising
· Excellent writing and communication skills
· Fluent in both English and Bahasa Indonesia. Some Balinese preferred
· Prior experience with grassroots NGOs and/or the Indonesian health system
· Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills, and respect the unique values and approach of Yayasan Bumi Sehat.
· Willing to live in Ubud, Bali during the time of the contract,
and be willing to travel twice to Aceh and at least once to Jakarta at
the end of the contract.
· Familiar with Bali (lived or worked in Bali before),
· International experience preferred
· Ability to work independently; with little or no direct supervision
