Background
STATT’s programs with civil
society in Indonesia are growing quickly. We are inviting applicants for exciting
work as a Qualitative Research Analyst focused on analysing the civil society
sector and on supporting STATT’s engagement with Indonesian NGOs. You will be collaborating
with a small projectteam in Indonesia and connecting with our civil society
initiatives spread across several countries. The job is based in Jakarta and
will involve some travel within Indonesia. It is a 6-month initial contract, commencing
in June, with the possibility of extension.

Your Responsibilities
Your primary responsibility is
to perform qualitative research and analysis into civil society in Indonesia,
participating in a team producing novel analysis of trends and capacities. The
team works across STATT’s five programs, with a focus in Indonesia on our
activities in migration, NGO capacity-building and natural disasters.
Working with the Director of
Programs – Indonesia, you will your analytical skills to guide STATT’s services
to NGOs and other organisations. Your individual and team tasks will include the following:
· Conduct literature reviews,
including in relation to historical trends in and affecting the Indonesian NGO sector.
· Support the development of a
typology of civil society organisations.
· Review and analyse laws and
policies related to the NGO sector in Indonesia.
· Participate in efforts to map donor
activity relevant to civil society.
· Prepare and participate in meetings
and seminars with donors, civil society organisations and the government.
· Support research design, including
specific interests in projects that understand NGO capacities, migration
patterns and natural disaster risks.
· Produce research and communications
outputs in English or Indonesian. Coordination of communications outputs will
include liaison with media, NGOs, government and specialist groups, such as
migrants and returned migrants.
· Liaise with civil society
organisations to obtain information and to support STATT’s networking.
· Support STATT’s projects affecting
civil society in Indonesia.
Your Background and Qualifications
This role requires someone who
is self-motivated in managing research work and who is interested in Indonesian
development or civil society. The role is both challenging and rewarding.The
followingqualifications and experience are necessary:
1. Minimum 3 years of experience
working in the NGO sector, within an NGO, donor organisation or government
agency liaising with civil society.
2. Master (S2) in a social science
field, or Bachelor (S1) with an additional 3 years of experience.
3. Demonstrated
ability to design and perform qualitative research.Demonstrated ability to use
secondary sources and produce novel insights from them.
4. Ability to liaise with diverse
stakeholders, including donors, civil society organisations and government
officials.
5. Fluency in oral and written English
and Indonesia, to a level that will enable you to process secondary academic sources
in both languages.
6. Demonstrated capacity to coordinate
and produce communications materials is desirable.
