Background
STATT’s programs with civil society in Indonesia are growing quickly. We are inviting applicants for exciting work as a Research Assistant focused on collecting and analysing data about the NGO sector in Indonesia. You will be collaborating with a small projectteam in Indonesia and connecting with our civil society initiatives spread across several countries. The job is based in Jakarta and will involve some travel within Indonesia. It is a 6-month part-time contract, commencing in June 2012.

Your Responsibilities
Your primary responsibility is to support a research team working on the NGO sector in Indonesia. Your team will be producing novel analysis of trends and capacities.You will work with the Lead Researcher and in close cooperation with the Director of Programs – Indonesia. Your individual and team tasks will include the following:
·                Investigate quantitative databases that exist and maintain a standardized database for their compilation and analysis.
>·                Compile literature related to the NGO sector in Indonesia and donor efforts, assessing the literature based on its usefulness to the project
>·                Arrange and follow up on interviews and workshops.
>·                Support analysis, report writing, research design writing and presentations through fact checking, development of bibliographies and source lists, and document and presentation formatting
>·                Outputs will include a work plan, which the Research Assistant and the Lead Researcher will establish based on the team work plan, as well as brief bi-weekly progress reports reporting on activities, sources consulted, and next steps. Substantive outputs will be determined by this work plan as well as the evolving needs of the research team. Given the need for flexibility and responsiveness, the Research Assistant is expected to communicate openly and regularly with the Lead Researcher and team research specialists.
Your Background and Qualifications
This role requires someone who is self-motivated in organising their work and who is interested in Indonesian development or civil society. The role is both challenging and rewarding. The followingqualifications and experience are necessary:
·                Bachelor (S1) in a social science or professional field. Minimum 2 years of experience working in a research-related capacity. If related to the NGO sector and/or donor agencies, a strong plus.
>·                Strong computer skills with proven database management skills
>·                Familiarity with research databases
>·                Experience preparing high-quality literature reviews
>·                Skilled at relationship management with project stakeholders and resources
>·                Strong writing and communication skills. Must be able to read and process academic literature in English and Indonesian.
