Project title: Intermittent Screening and Treatment or Intermittent Prevention Therapy for control of malaria in pregnancy in Indonesia (STOPMIP)

The positions offer opportunities for motivated candidates to join an international collaborative project between the Eijkman Institute for Molecular Biology and the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine, UK. The Eijkman Institute is a prestigious well established internationally acclaimed research institute advancing and contributing to infectious and non-infectious disease based scientific research. Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine is an international centre of excellence with up to date access and expertise in tropical infectious diseases making them a world leader in their field.


Computer literacy, time management and organisational skills and ability to work both collaboratively and independently across a multi-disciplinary team are essential. Good command of written and spoken English is necessary for the roles below;
1. Research Assistant (South West Sumba)
Purpose: To work under the mentorship of the project Principal Investigators to ensure the study is implemented according to the clinical trial protocol and support day to day research activities.
Field based fixed term for 12 months extendable for 2.5 years
Qualification: Bachelors Medical degree or higher
Current Medical Practitioner License valid in Indonesia

Additional merit: work experience in rural settings 3 months or more. Knowledge in infectious diseases or public health is desirable.

The successful candidate will be based in South West Sumba district. He/she is open to learning new skills. Responsibilities include
• Assist the PIs in the preparation and translation of consent forms, clinical record forms and preparation of SOPs.
• Engage in the training of the study team with guidance from the PIs
• Managing participant enrolment and supervise human sample collection and data entry
• Assist in the logistics and management tasks.

2. Research Assistant (extensive periods in South west Sumba district and in Timika Papua)
Purpose: To work under the mentorship of the project Principal Investigators to ensure the study is implemented according to the health systems study under the main clinical trial and support day to day research activities.

Field based fixed term for 12 months

Qualification: Masters in Public Health or higher degree or Masters in Life Science field

Additional merit: Knowledge in qualitative research and work experience in rural settings 3 months or more

The successful candidate will spend extensive time periods in South west Sumba district and in Timika Papua. He/she is open to learning new skills and qualitative data management. Responsibilities will include
• Assisting the PIs in the preparation and translation of consent forms and data forms
• Engage in the training of the field workers with guidance from the PIs
• Qualitative data management and transcribing research data
• Socialise research objectives and process to the local leaders

3. Field coordinator (South West Sumba)
Purpose: will work under the direction of the project PIs to manage the operational aspects of the clinical trial according to the standards of the protocol.
Qualifications: BA/BSc or higher in life Sciences or degree in Biomedical field or nursing degree.
Additional merit: 3 months or more work experience in rural setting and administrative matters

The successful candidate will be based in South west Sumba district and work closely with Research Assistants and scientific team. He/she is open to learning new skills. Responsibilities include:
• Overseeing operational responsibilities and compliance with study protocol by study team
• Manage logistics and perform coordination tasks in preparation of CRFs and consumables required for participant enrolment
• Supervise field staff, manage payroll and keep track of field budget
• Liaise with local community and DHO as necessary
